Forbidden Fruit – Eden Bradley

Bradley, Eden. Forbidden Fruit. (New York: Delta, 2008). ISBN – 9780553385113.

Main Characters: Mia Rose Curry and Jagger James; Karalee and Gideon Oliver

Description from book:

 One taste is never enough.

For university professor Mia Rose Curry, it was all academic: her course in alternative sexuality was a safe, socially acceptable way for her to talk about the things she desired most – but had never let herself experience. And while students crammed into her class to learn about fetishes, bondage, voyeurism, and much more, Mia kept her own raging desires, and her most private fantasies, carefully under wraps . . . until one man dared to make her secret passions a brazen reality.

Jagger James is everything Mia wants, and everything taboo: he’s gorgeous, daring – and a student. Yet Mia can’t help imaging his hands, his lips, his skin. . . all the while drawing closer and closer to this forbidden fruit. She soon discovers how much Jagger wants her, demanding that she abandon every inhibition with him. Now they are about to take a dangerous step, tempting each other’s flesh, savoring every touch and breaking every rule – knowing that this dazzling sensual feast is only a taste of something more to come. . .

My Thoughts:

Hmm, I’m not entirely sure what to say about this book. After finishing the book, my first thought was . . . interesting. My next thought was that the threads of the story were a bit different. Undoubtedly, this is an erotic romance – and I do read a fair number of erotic romances. But this is the first one that I have read where the main characters had food and water fetishes. I’m not sure that I have ever thought of food or water in any sexual way prior to reading this book – and am positive after having read this book that neither item really turns me on. This doesn’t mean that I didn’t enjoy the book – because I did. Mia and Jagger were great characters with a powerful chemistry between them. I was caught up in their story. Their attraction to and need for each other was undeniable. However, I found myself skimming over the detailed descriptions of food and couldn’t get into the level of arousal that centered around food. I understood Mia’s food fetish – and think that Bradley did a good job explaining how she developed this fetish with her first boyfriend. So, it made sense in the context of the book and the characters’ relationship, but it didn’t work for me in an erotic way.

I was much more drawn to the secondary characters of Karalee and Gideon Oliver. Their relationship has an element of dominance and submission – and this element is one that interests me – unlike the food and/or water fetish. So, I guess I enjoyed Karalee and Gideon’s story more because I could identify with their relationship in a way that I couldn’t identify with Mia and Jagger’s relationship.
