Description from book:

The fight of his life

As the illegitimate son of Diego Fuentes, Ian Richards faces danger at every turn. Neither his father nor his fellow Navy SEALs knows which side he’s fighting for – or against. Which is exactly how the game must be played . . . until Agent Porter enters the picture.

Stirs her desire for living

Kira Porter, undercover agent for the Department of Homeland Security, shadows Ian on his journey. She thinks she can see the real man beneath Ian’s bad-boy exterior . . . but the ever-elusive Ian keeps her guessing at every turn. Is his goal to protect the Fuentes cartel from French terrorists? Or to do his father in for good? The only thing Kira does know is that her attraction to Ian is a time bomb waiting to explode. With time running out on the Fuentes mission, she and Ian are drawn every close to the edge of desire – and even closer to the line of fire . . .

My Thoughts:

I drove around to several bookstores yesterday in order to get my hands on this book (along with the anthology Shifter by Angela Knight, Lora Leigh, Alyssa Day and Virginia Kantra and Maya Banks’ Sweet Surrender). I was in no way disappointed. I love Lora Leigh’s books, including the Tempting SEALs’ series. As of this moment, I think that Killer Secrets might by my favorite of all of the stories in this series. I loved Ian Richards – I guess I must be a sucker for a tortured soul. And how could Ian not be tortured? I mean his father, Diego Fuentes, is a leader of a drug cartel – one who thinks nothing of killing, kidnapping and raping people. Additionally, Ian feels personally responsible for the fact that his best friend was held and tortured by Diego and his cohorts.

This story begins with Ian who has deserted his position in the U.S. Navy in order to help his father run the drug cartel. At the end of the last novel in the series, we were led to believe that Ian was a traitor to both his SEAL team and country. However, Ian had his own agenda – and his own plan. The blurb from the back of the book gives one the impression that Ian’s loyalties are questionable. Realistically, they are never in doubt. Kira Porter follows Ian to Aruba quite sure about where Ian’s loyalties lie. I, for one, never doubted that Kira knew Ian enough to make such a judgement. This could be why I loved Kira and Ian’s relationship so much. Kira understood Ian’s deeper motives. On the flip side, Ian always knew who Kira was. She had made a spy-type career out of being able to alter her appearance. She was known as the Chameleon. However, the Chameleon never fooled Ian.

Anyway, I loved this book. I’m assuming that this series (despite the fact that Macey’s story will be published as part of an anthology this summer) is over. The Diego Fuentes plot was resolved. Admittedly, there is room for more murder, betrayal and mayhem. However, the main members of the SEALs Durango team have all found true love. There is the tortured Nathan. Does he recover? What happened to his wife while he was thought dead? Did we ever find out what information Nathan had that Diego wanted so badly? Oh well, I can go back and read the series from the start. I may have to comfort myself with that!
