Wicked – Sasha White

White, Sasha. Wicked. (New York: Berkley, 2008). ISBN – 9780425219188.

Main Characters: Karl Dawson and Lara Fox

Related Works: Trouble is the story of Karl’s friend Valentine Ward and Samair Jones. Karl first appears in Bound, Katie Long and Joe Carson’s story.

Description from book:

Bad-boy divorce attorney Karl Dawson has seen all the ways love can go wrong. That’s why he’s given up on it. Jaded and restless, he has playmates, not girlfriends. A leather-clad Dominant, he comes and goes as he pleases in the city’s after-dark playgrounds. That’s how he likes it.

Lara Fox is an independent jack-of-all-trades, who can do anything she sets her mind to – except that falling-in-love thing. She’s got a need for control too strong for most men, and an inability to walk away from a challenge. Including a challenge like Karl. He’s cocky, arrogant, and demanding. That’s how she needs it.

They’re perfect for each other. But what begins as a sensual battle of wills turns into a journey neither is prepared for when Lara is threatened and emotional walls start to crumble . . .

My Thoughts:

Out of Sasha White’s Bound, Trouble and Wicked, Wicked is definitely my favorite. While White introduced us to Karl Dawson in Trouble, I felt as if we got an intriguing glimpse of him in Trouble. I was anxiously awaiting the release of Wicked so that I could read about Karl and Lara. I was in no way disappointed. Karl first meets Lara when he spies her kneeling backside underneath his assistant’s desk. Lara is installing a wireless network in Karl’s office – at the bequest of his assistant Graham (who is also Lara’s housemate). Sparks between Karl and Lara fly immediately. The tension between the two is almost palpable. It isn’t necessarily an easy relationship. Karl is a dominant and Lara doesn’t exactly appear to have a submissive personality. However, she does claim to be up for anything at least once – and Karl wants her to prove it.

Lara does indeed prove that she has submissive tendencies – that she enjoys and wants to submit to Karl. It isn’t an easy journey for Lara, and Ms. White gives us quite a glimpse of Lara’s thoughts and emotions about her new relationship. One of my favorite parts of the book is where Lara researches dominance and submission online. I think we get a great glimpse into Lara’s mind and how she deals with the journey she is embarking upon with Karl. Plus, I loved Karl. While he is a dominant, he is caring and loving. Yummy!!!
