Description from book:

Acclaimed for her “electrically charged, erotic, and sinfully good read(s),” Lora Leigh delivers her hottest tale yet, about a Kentucky marine who’ll do anything to get the woman he wants – and the shy little beauty who wants it bad. Real bad.

James “Dawg” Mackay has lusted after sweet Crista Jansen for years. Just as many as she’s spent running from him – and from that dangerous attraction that shot like a spark through her whole body. But for Crista, running isn’t an option anymore because Dawg’s got a plan. It’s kind of low-down. And kind of hot.

Blackmail is a dirty word, but Dawg will use it if that’s what it takes to get Crista where he wants her. His hunger is to hard and fierce not to. He doesn’t realize that Crista has a longing, too. She knows what he’s up to, what he’s capable of. He didn’t get that nickname for nothing. And before the night is through, Crista’s going to make him work for it.

My Thoughts:

I’m so addicted to Lora Leigh’s books – seriously. I love how much emotion and passions exists between the lead characters in her stories – and this one was no exception. Dawg has been after Crista for years – and she has been resisting him – or so he thought. One the night of his parents’ funeral, Crista had found a very drunk Dawg and helped him get home. A night of passionate lovemaking had ensued – a night that Dawg had forgotten. Crista, pregnant and hurt, fled town – not to return for a long time.

Eight years later, Crista returns home. Dawg resumes his pursuit and is met by Crista’s hostility. That is, until Crista finds herself in the middle of a warehouse gunfight. Dawg rescues her and gets her out of the warehouse without alerting the authorities with whom he is working. With years of pent-up frustration eating at him, Dawg blackmails Crista into his home and his bed. Crista and Dawg are caught up in a deadly scheme by someone whose hatred of Dawg runs deep. As they try to unravel the mystery, they have to deal with their present – and the history that Dawg can’t quite remember. It isn’t an easy road. Dawg is jealous of the men with who Crista lived when she left town. Crista carries around the hurt left when Dawg didn’t remember their night together and from the loss of their baby. However, their feelings won’t let them walk away from each other.

I loved this book – and was actually quite sad when I finished it. I can certainly read it again, but that will never quite be the same as the first read. I can hardly wait for Natches story.

Read first on November 5, 2007.
