Description from book:

Cursed with the extraordinary power to feel other peoples’ emotions, Megan Fields has tucked herself away in a remote corner of New Mexico, working as a small-town sheriff’s deputy. She finds solace in the silence and heat of the desert. But when Breeds begin dying on her watch,

Megan realizes that the secrets from her past can’t stay buried forever. Someone is out for blood – her blood. An arrogant Feline Breed, Braden Arness broods with feral intensity. His mission to solve the mysterious murders brings him to Megan, a woman who accosts his senses like no other. Only with him can she let down her guard – and surrender to the insatiable hunger that wracks her body. But as they team up to hunt the elusive killers, Braden and Megan find themselves becoming the prey…

My Thoughts:

It was no big surprise that I enjoyed this book as much as the others that I have read in Lora Leigh’s Breeds series. Megan is an empath who hides herself in the desert in order to minimize her contact with people’s emotions. Because her gift didn’t materialize until she was a teenager, Megan had never been able to construct the necessary shields to help her cope with her empathic abilities. When she runs into some serious trouble in the desert, Braden Arness – a Lion Breed -comes to her rescue. I love the relationship between these two. Megan is a kick-ass kind of heroine who isn’t too keen on allowing anyone to make her do anything. Braden, despite having some of those dominate breed characteristics, respects that part of Megan’s personality – and even encourages it. His one big fault is that he keeps biting her. By the third time Megan tells him to stop, I was laughing hysterically.

I am getting rather confused by all this Mating Heat stuff. It seems to be different in each book. I realize that the point is that the Breeds are trying to figure it all out – that is why they keep taking blood and doing physical exams. Hopefully, we will find out more in Dawn’s Awakening – the next book in the Breeds’ series. I can’t wait.
