Description from book:

Angel . . . or the devil in disguise?

On one final mission for the crown, David Donally is hunting for a missing treasure. His only clue is a dazzling, gem-encrusted earring, and it is leading him to the most desirable woman he has ever known . . . an enchanting thief he once seduced and betrayed in the name of duty . . . an exquisite lover he’d believed was dead . . . his wife!

Meg Faraday thought her former life was behind her – until the night the treacherous husband she’d eluded suddenly appeared. By rights she should despise the handsome spy who had captured her heart, then shattered it. But the fire between them still burns, and what was once an irresistible passion has now become a dangerous game of betrayal.

My Thoughts:

There seem to be a preponderance of spy-themed stories in the historical romance genre of late. As a whole, I do like the spy theme – and it is nice to read one that doesn’t deal with Bonaparte! That being said, there was quite a bit of intrigue and double-dealing in this tale. In fact, I will admit that I found the entire plot to be a bit convoluted. The end result, I think, is that Meg’s father was impersonating Kinley all along – fooling Donally and Lord Ravenspur (David’s brother in law and superior). Pamela was in cahoots with the fake Kinley. Evil-cousin Nellis was also working with Kinley and Pamela. Why was Colonel Faraday impersonating Kinley? I’m not sure about that one – to find his daughter is my best guess. The necklace that Meg had was the clue to unlocking the treasure.

Anyway, the plot was sometimes tough to follow, but I liked the story. It was nice to see David and Meg reunited – and with their son, Nathaniel.
