To Bed a Beauty – Nicole Jordan

Jordan, Nicole. To Bed a Beauty. (New York: Ballantine, 2008). ISBN - 9780345494603.

Main Characters: Andrew Moncrief, the Duke of Arden and Roslyn Loring

Related Works: This book is part of Nicole Jordan’s The Courtship Wars series. The books include the following: To Pleasure a Lady (the story of Marcus Pierce, Earl of Danvers and Arabella Loring), To Bed a Beauty (the story of Andrew Moncrief, the Duke of Arden and Rosyln Loring) and To Seduce a Bride (the story of Heath Griffin, Marquess of Claybourne and Lilian Loring).

Description from the book:

Clever and charming Roslyn Loring, the middle child of three beautiful, independent sisters, knows that true happiness lies in a marriage of the heart  – and she hers set on a love-match with a neighboring earl. Yet her sharp mind has observed an undeniable truth: Gentleman lavish passion on their mistresses, not their wives. Roslyn realized that to win her future husband’s ardor. Fortunately, she finds a willing tutor in Drew Moncrief, the Duke of Arden, a notorious rake whispered to be London’s most magnificent lover. If his searing kisses are any indication, the duke is the ideal man to teach Roslyn how to be the perfect mistress.

Drew begins schooling Roslyn while coolly guarding his heart. But as best-laid plans are thwarted by unexpected events – including a night of unforgettable passion – Roslyn and her wickedly arousing tutor discover how easily lessons in pleasure can become lessons in love.

My Thoughts:

I loved this book!!!! Drew Moncrief, the Duke of Arden, is a practiced rake who becomes embroiled with one of his best friend’s wards, Roslyn Loring. Roslyn and Drew are extremely attracted to each other, and she cannot resist his passion for her. However, Roslyn is committed to avoiding a loveless marriage. In fact, she has decided to marry her neighbor. As Drew and Roslyn work together to try and unravel a mysterious theft at the home of Lady Winifred, they find that they cannot stay away from each other. Drew comes fairly quickly to the conclusion that he wants Roslyn for his wife – something with which Roslyn does not agree. She intends to hold out for love.

Eventually, Drew and Roslyn resolve their differences. It is an incredibly passionate journey – and one that is a great complement to the first book in this series, To Pleasure a Lady. I was quite sad when I finished this book because I had to say goodbye to Drew and Roslyn. I was excited by the preview of the last book in the series, To Seduce a Bride. I can’t wait to read it!
